‘LIVE FROM SLAC’S MAN CAVE: BABIES, BOTTLES AND BINKIES… OH, MY!’A FREE PANEL DISCUSSION INSPIRED BY SEAN CHRISTOPHER LEWIS’‘MANNING UP’
The Salt Lake Acting Company will present a free panel discussion in conjunction with the National New Play Network Rolling World Premiereproduction of MANNING UP by Sean Christopher Lewis on Sunday, December 9 at 4:00 PM. The panel discussion Live from SLAC’sMan Cave: Babies, Bottles and Binkies… Oh My! will explore major themes of the play—a comedy about two soon-to-be fathers questioning what it is to be a husband, a friend, and a man in contemporary society. The play centers on Donnie and Raymond, two best friends wrestling with the reality of becoming fathers in Raymond’s basement as they wonder how to be the men they need to be for the women upstairs.
With the experience of the panelists, the audience will explore the way we view men, masculinity and fatherhood. The panel discussion will give a greater insight into the fears of transitioning towards fatherhood and the dynamics of male best friends. This conversation will give the audience a chance to enter the man cave and understand what being a man and father mean.

Terry Gildea (Moderator) is the News Director at KUER. Terry’s reporting has been covered expansively on NPR’s Morning Edition, Weekend Edition and All things Considered.
Matt Basso, Ph.D. (Panelist) holds Assistant Professor appointments in History and Gender Studies at the University of Utah. His training is in American Studies and in cultural and social history, with specialties in gender, race, and class relations particularly in the American West and the Pacific World. The formation and operation of masculinity has been the major focus of his research.
Joe Borgenicht (Panelist) is a co-author of the best-selling book The Baby Owner’s Manual: Operating Instructions, Trouble-Shooting Tips, and Advice on First-Year Maintenance, which explores common concerns of first-time parents. He has co-authored several books and his current work revolves around helping men communicate with other men through sharing their experiences.
Dr. Louis Borgenicht (Panelist) is a pediatrician, a writer, a father and co-author of The Baby Owner’s Manual: Operating Instructions, Trouble-Shooting Tips, and Advice on First-Year Maintenance. He holds a BA from PrincetonUniversity and received his doctorate from Case Western Reserve Medical Schoolin 1970.
Josh Martin (Panelist) is the Master Electrician and Sound Designer at Salt Lake Acting Company and expects his first child on January 6, 2013.
Zachary Sloan (Panelist) is a soon-to-be father with a child expected on December 14, 2012 and works as a special education resource teacher atCopper Hills High School.
‘Live from SLAC’s Man Cave: Babies, Bottles and Binkies… Oh, My!’ will be held in the Chapel Theatre at the Salt lake Acting Company on Sunday December 9, 2012 at 4:00pm, following the1:00 PM matinee and preceding the 6:00pm performance of MANNING UP. The panel discussion is free. 103 theatre seats are available to the public.
