VENDORS ANNOUNCED FOR FEBRUARY WINTER “POP-UP” FARMERS MARKETTheme of “Chocolate & Cheese;” featuring handpicked vendors at Caputo’s Market & Deli.Salt Lake City (February 5, 2013) – The Downtown Alliance’s fourth Winter “Pop-Up” Farmers Market will be held on February 9th at the downtown location of Tony Caputo’s Market & Deli, 314 W. 300 S., focusing on a Valentine’s Day theme of “Chocolate & Cheese.”A wide variety of local produce will be available, such as winter root vegetables, potatoes, kale, micro-greens, herbs, squash, spinach and garlic, as well as packaged foods including curries, hummus, fresh pasta and more. Locally raised beef, chicken, pork will also be available along with local sheep, goat, and cow’s milk cheeses. “Caputo’s is the perfect choice for our Valentine’s Day market,” said Alison Einerson, Winter Market Manager. “Their selection of artisan chocolates is astounding in and of itself. Couple that with handmade cheeses, fresh produce, baked goods, and local meats, and you’ve set the table for a lovely meal! It’s one-stop shopping.” These one-day events, emphasizing local food, are held monthly (November – April) at different downtown locations. A pop-up concept offers only dates, times and themes in advance, location and vendor lists are announced just prior. A Winter Market encourages local producers to increase food production in the winter months by providing a direct marketing outlet for sales. The Downtown Alliance’s strategy is to use the Pop-Up winter markets to build awareness and support for a year-round market. The objective is to expand to weekly winter markets by next year, with the ultimate goal of a daily, year-round Public Market in the future.
